The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Your responsibilities include:

Working on a research project to investigate PFAS-free membranes in redox flow batteries

  • Designing and setting up a test bench for redox flow batteries with a focus on membrane and electrolyte analysis on a laboratory scale
  • Flexible design of this test bench with regard to electrolytes and redox systems
  • Planning and implementation of a pilot and test phase analysis of the test bench
  • Collection and evaluation of sensor and status data
  • Application and development of methods for the electrochemical and chemical characterization/analysis of PFAS-free membrane materials for redox flow batteries
  • Method development for the detection (and, if necessary, characterization) of PFAS-based electrolyte contaminants
  • Developing models and modeling the prediction of the service life of PFAS-free membrane materials in redox flow batteries based on electroanalytical r data
  • communication with project partners and international experts, reporting, publication, and presentation

Your qualifications:

  • University degree (diploma/master's) in engineering, process engineering, materials science, (physical) chemistry, chemical engineering, or comparable with above-average promotion
  • Experience in setting up, designing, and working with redox flow batteries
  • Good knowledge of electrochemistry and electroanalytics, especially voltammetry and impedance spectroscopy
  • Knowledge of physical chemistry
  • Solid knowledge of mathematics is an advantage
  • Technical understanding of sensor technology, measurement data acquisition, and test bench design
  • Confident documentation of results, experience in writing scientific publications and reports
  • Basic knowledge of script-based data analysis, with programming skills (e.g., in Python, Matlab, C(++) or similar) for data processing and automation is an advantage
  • Very good written and spoken English skills ( )
  • Good communication and information behaviour, goal-oriented and structured approach to work, initiative/commitment and ability to mtake iniative, as well as ability to work in a team and willingness to cooperate
