The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Our work covers a broad array of topics in the focus areas of energy, infrastructure, environment, materials, and chemistry and process engineering.

Your responsibilities include:
This position offers you the unique opportunity to work at the interface between the development of new software concepts and groundbreaking materials research, as well as at the interface between science and industry. Your task will be to create, implement, interconnect and to explain a digital workflow management system that enables the following:
- Innovative material simulations that combine raw data with reproducible predictions of material behaviour in the form of figures, diagrams and reports
- the digital representation and execution of experimental processes and the processing of digital experimental data
- the integration of AI methods and machine learning models and their direct coupling with simulation and experiments
- the semantic description of digital processes in both simulations and experiments
- collaboration with stakeholders from the academic and industrial environment of the MaterialDigital project
Your qualifications:
- Completed scientific university degree (diploma/master's) in physics, computer science, materials science or engineering
- Doctorate, preferably with a ‘good’ grade
- Solid knowledge in the field of atomistic or cross-scale simulations for materials engineering or materials science issues
- Data acquisition skills from experimental processes are an advantage
- Experienced user of AI methods
- Publications on the above-mentioned areas in scientific journals
- Very good knowledge of a programming language (e.g. Python, C++)
- Competence in (research) data management, workflow systems and their user interfaces
- Background in knowledge transfer and public relations
- Experience in teamwork in collaborative projects
- Very good, precise and addressee-oriented verbal and written communication skills in German or English as well as a basic willingness to travel round off your profile
- Good communication and information skills, initiative/commitment and ability to take action, decision-making skills and ability, ability to work in a team and willingness to cooperate
