The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Our work covers a broad array of topics in the focus areas of energy, infrastructure, environment, materials, and chemistry and process engineering.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Collaboration in an EMPIR project on the metrology of hydrogen vehicles
  • Working on gas measurement tasks in a real-world laboratory
  • Development and validation of integrated measurement technology in the field of hydrogen mobility
  • Development of sensor-based methods and online monitoring methods for detecting contaminants in hydrogen
  • Broadening knowledge about contaminants in hydrogen and development of quality assurance procedures
  • Development of sampling strategies in accordance with ISO 19880-9
  • Independent performance of experiments with gas measurement technology and data collection and analysis using Origin, KNIME, and/or Python
  • Writing project reports in English
  • Writing manuscripts for publications
  • Supervision of students

Your qualifications:

  • Successfully completed university degree in chemistry with a focus on analytics/sensor technology, applied physics, or similar
  • Experience in setting up experiments and independently conducting experiments with gas measurement technology, data acquisition, and analysis with Origin, KNIME, or Python
  • Experience in evaluating experiments
  • Very good communication skills in German and English (at least B2)
  • Experience in writing project reports in English
  • Experimental skills
  • Experience in supervising students is desirable
  • Good communication and information skills, goal-oriented and structured approach to work, initiative/commitment and ability to work independently, ability to work in a team and cooperate with others, as well as conceptual, strategic, and innovative thinking skills
