The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Our work covers a broad array of topics in the focus areas of energy, infrastructure, environment, materials, and chemistry and process engineering.
We are looking for talented people to join us.
Your responsibilities include:
Scientific processing of the research project ‘InInspekt’ (robot-based multisensory internal inspection of rotor blades). The focus is on the development, testing and validation of measurement strategies for passive and active thermography as well as the processing and publication of multimodal sensor data.
- Scientific design and definition of measurement strategies for two-stage thermographic inspection (passive and active) inside rotor blades
- Selection, procurement and integration of suitable hardware (thermographic camera, heat source) into the overall robotic system in coordination with the project partners
- Planning, organisation and implementation of experimental investigations on real rotor blade sections at the BAM site, as well as participation in data collection in the field (Germany and EU)
- Systematic processing, fusion and analysis of multimodal raw data (RGB, 3D scans, thermography)
- Creation and publication of a scientific reference data set in accordance with FAIR principles
Your qualifications:
- Completed university degree (diploma, master's) in physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials science, physical engineering, computer science or similar.
- Doctorate is an advantage
- Very good practical programming experience, preferably in Python or Matlab, for signal and image processing and data analysis
- Experience in working on application-oriented research projects, ideally in the field of non-destructive testing of wind turbines or fibre composite materials
