The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. Your responsibilities include:
- Processing tasks within the framework of the BMWE-funded LuFo project “Sonrisa”
- Work package management “AP3.2 Workflow development for zone-based CT analysis”
- Implementation and evaluation of computed tomography measurements on several laboratory micro-computer tomography systems in division 8.5
- Support in the maintenance of the laboratory micro-computer tomography systems in division 8.5
- Planning, performing, and evaluating in-situ/4D computed tomography experiments
- Developing software for the quantitative evaluation of various image data sets (algorithms for detecting volume changes and the morphology of particles, cracks, etc.)
- Active participation in project meetings
- Active participation in the BAM topic area of materials
- Acquisition and processing of research projects
- Supervision of master's theses, doctoral students, and technical staff
- Cooperation with internal and external research groups as well as with industrial partners
- Detailed scientific documentation of results through technical articles, presentations at national and international conferences, publications, reports
Your qualifications:
- Successfully completed university degree in physics or a comparable subject with a doctorate
- In-depth knowledge and experience in computer tomography and experimental imaging techniques, demonstrated by publications, scientific documentation, and active participation in conferences
- In-depth experience and knowledge in digital image processing and analysis
- Solid experience in other material characterization techniques
- Experience in the design and implementation of experimental setups and instrumentation, in particular in-situ computer tomography
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages relevant to the task (e.g., Python, Matlab, Labview, C++)
- Experience in programming and training your own AI-based models for image segmentation or image compression, as demonstrated by Git repositories
- Experience in supervising students and young scientists
- Good knowledge of materials science
- Very good knowledge of English or German (spoken and written)
- Good communication skills, both verbal (e.g., demonstrated by presentations at international conferences) and written (ability to publish scientific articles and reports)
- Initiative/commitment and ability to take action, decision-making skills and ability, teamwork and cooperation skills, as well as conceptual, strategic, and innovative thinking skills
