The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Our work covers a broad array of topics in the focus areas of energy, infrastructure, environment, materials, and chemistry and process engineering.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Technical support for the NDT construction field in the context of reuse and repurposing, quantitative determination of material parameters
  • Technical support and management of research projects, e.g., SFB 1683 with Ruhr University Bochum
  • Technical support for doctoral candidates and students
  • Acquisition of research projects
  • Collaboration on strategic processes at BAM (activity areas: circular economy, GIB)

Your qualifications:

  • Completed university degree (master's/diploma) in civil engineering, preferably in building materials (concrete), structural design, or solid construction
  • Completed doctorate in a relevant field or equivalent several years of practical professional experience with publications
  • Experience in project management (primarily research projects)
  • Experience with NDT methods for civil engineering
  • Programming skills (Matlab/Python)
  • Knowledge of NDT, measurement technology, and/or SHM
  • Experience with relevant standards and regulations
  • Good knowledge of German
  • Very good written and spoken English
  • Knowledge of BIM/digitalization is an advantage
  • Knowledge of structural engineering in existing buildings is an advantage
  • Suitability for construction sites
  • Willingness to travel
  • Good communication and information skills, goal-oriented and structured way of working, initiative/commitment and ability to work independently, decision-making skills, as well as ability to work in a team and willingness to cooperate
