The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Our work covers a broad array of topics in the focus areas of energy, infrastructure, environment, materials, and chemistry and process engineering.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Processing of the third-party funded project “NMRBatt”
  • Commissioning of NMR solid-state spectrometers, operando battery NMR measuring heads, as well as PFG measuring heads and the corresponding associated hardware
  • Carrying out solid-state NMR measurements and developing measurement methods for the above-mentioned measurement techniques
  • Assisting with the maintenance and operation of the NMR laboratory
  • Training and practical guidance of doctoral students/students
  • Assistance with scientific administration
  • Collaboration in the preparation of scientific publications (refereed journal articles and conference contributions) and in the acquisition of third-party funds

Your qualifications:

  • Very good scientific university degree (diploma/master's degree) in in physics, chemistry or a comparable subject area
  • PhD in a field of solid-state NMR spectroscopy
  • Several years of practical experience with solid-state NMR spectroscopy and strong interest in operando battery NMR measurements and PFG NMR spectroscopy
  • Practical experience with operando battery NMR measurements or PFG NMR spectroscopy would be an advantage
  • Proven publication activity in the relevant research areas
  • Very good written and spoken English skills
  • Good knowledge of German is an advantage
  • Initial experience in the supervision of junior researchers
  • International research experience is an advantage
  • Good presentation and publication skills
  • Willingness to travel
  • Goal-oriented and structured way of working, initiative/commitment and ability to make decisions, ability to work in a team and willingness to cooperate, willingness to learn,
