BAM develops interdisciplinary solutions for resilient and sustainable transport infrastructure for roads and railways. In light of key challenges such as aging structures, rising traffic volumes, resource scarcity, and the impacts of climate change, the efficient maintenance of existing infrastructure is essential.

Innovative building materials, modern construction, testing, monitoring, assessment, and prediction methods, as well as optimized maintenance measures, ensure the safety of civil engineering structures and transportation routes and extend their lifespan. Extending the life of existing infrastructure reduces the short-term need for new construction and, consequently, resource consumption, costs, and emissions.

The results of BAM’s research are directly incorporated into national and international norms, standards, and guidelines to promote implementation in practice. In this way, BAM actively shapes the future of transport infrastructure and provides answers to transportation issues through the lens of civil engineering and research.
