I am Dalia Morcillo, a Spanish chemical and materials engineer who started a year ago an academic career at BAM as a PhD candidate. My main research interests are focused on the isotopic analysis of lithium in batteries.

Throughout my life I have had several professional and academic experiences in different countries and cultures. On several occasions, women have been the minority (both in number and in positions of power). At times this has made me yearn for more female referents with different mindset to serve as role models for my professional growth.

Fortunately, I feel that in recent years this has been changing. I think a key reason has been the introduction of gender equality policies in the industry.

Today at BAM I am surrounded by female colleagues in science who are willing to help me, teach me and also encourage me in those challenging moments of my research. They are my role models today just as I hope to be one for future women who decide to venture into the exciting world of science and academia.
