Materials Challenges and Testing for Supply of Energy and Resources

Böllinghaus, Th.; Lexow, J.; Kishi, T.; Kitagawa, M. (eds.). 2012, Springer, ISBN 978-3-642-233347-0.
One major goal of the World Materials Research Institute Forum - WMRIF is to promote young scientists in the field of materials science and engineering. WMRIF regularly organises joint workshops among the member institutes. This book comprises the peer-reviewed contributions during the 2nd International Workshop for Young Materials Scientists at BAM.

Contaminated river sediment ERM®-CC020

Starting material for the preparation of the new certified reference material ERM®-CC020 was a mixture of river sediments. Certified values are given for aqua regia extractable (ISO 11466) mass fractions of As, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb, V and Zn. ERM®-CC020 is available as a powder with particle sizes below 63 µm. Super fast crystals

BAM’s analytical chemists have observed an unusually fast crystallisation of the antihypertensive drug nifedipine. They can measure crystallisation processes that occur 10,000 times faster than previously known. Knowledge of the different crystallisation pathways is important in order to characterise the specific impact of this crystallisation on the development of pharmaceuticals.

Reference Organisms Database

BAM offers a new “Reference Organisms Database” for bacteria, fungi and insects on the internet which can be used for standard tests and tests on manufactured products. The special feature of this database is that it contains standard reference insects. BAM’s scientists have characterised structure and form (morphology) of four beetle, seven termite and two moth types.
