A reliable transportation infrastructure is the backbone of Germany as a business location. The challenges here are ageing structures, increasing traffic volumes, changing environmental influences due to climate change and the resource- and energy-intensive life cycle of structures. BAM develops interdisciplinary solutions for a modern, sustainable, and safe transportation infrastructure.

One focus is the data-supported maintenance management of infrastructure structures and traffic routes. BAM's activities here cover the entire process from the development of state-of-the-art testing and monitoring systems to the evaluation and management of measurement data and the reliability assessment and optimization of maintenance measures based on advanced simulation and calculation methods. In addition, we develop innovative repair measures and building materials. We research new types of damage and ageing models to be able to realistically assess and predict the condition and performance of transportation infrastructure.
