The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. Your responsibilities include:

Due to the increasing complexity of today's numerical models, which is accompanied by an enormous increase of the required computing power and time, a number of different approaches called model reduction have been developed in the last few decades. The goal is to calculate complex models in less computational time. With such reduced models, e.g. Proper Generalized Decomposition, it is possible to derive models that can be evaluated very efficiently. They allow evaluations, e.g. in the context of complex optimization processes in real time. In particular, the job opening deals with:

  • Further processing of the project „A proper generalized decomposition approach for an efficient structural reliability analysis
  • Development of innovative numerical model order reduction methods for efficient computation of nonlinear, viscoelastic structures and processes (e.g. 3D concrete printing)
  • Development and implementation of a suitable approaches to consider internal variables in the Proper Generalized Decomposition (PGD) method
  • Validation of the numerical models with reference simulations as well as experimental data
  • Coupling of the developed methods within optimization processes (reliability analysis, model calibration, process control)
  • Presentation and publication of the results in research journals as well as on national and international conferences
  • Interdisciplinary cooperation and transfer with national and international research groups

Your qualifications:

  • University degree (diploma / master) in engineering, applied physics, mathematics or comparable
  • PhD or equivalent experience is desirable
  • Very good experiences in technical mechanics and finite element method
  • Very good experience and knowledge in developing of FEM applications (own material, element or solver routines)
  • Very good programming skills with e.g. C++ and python
  • Ideally experiences in continuum mechanics, nonlinear material modeling and model reduction methods, especially Proper Generalized Decomposition (PGD)
  • Very good oral and written skills in German and English
  • Good communication and Information behaviour, goal-oriented and structured way of working, initiative / commitment, ability to work in a Team / willingness to cooperate, willingness to learn
