The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Our work covers a broad array of topics in the focus areas of energy, infrastructure, environment, materials, and analytical sciences.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Research on safety and security aspects with a special focus on hazards during handling, transport and storage of explosives and pyrotechnics
  • Execution of detonation tests as well as simulation of detonation processes
  • Assessment of the safety of facilities for the production and storage of explosives and pyrotechnic articles as well as investigation of accidents and incidents
  • Classification of explosives and pyrotechnic articles within the legal framework, including further development and validation of relevant test methods in this field
  • Preparing statements on international and national regulations, in particular for ADR class 1 goods, as well as participation in committees

Your qualifications:

  • Successfully completed scientific university degree specialising in natural science or engineering with at least a good PhD Degree
  • Fulfillment of the career prerequisites for federal civil servants
  • Knowledge of handling highly reactive substances, preferably explosives or pyrotechnic objects
  • Knowledge of the safety assessment of explosives and pyrotechnic articles is desirable
  • Knowledge of the safety assessment of explosives, pyrotechnic articles and ammunition, taking into account the relevant legal provisions (SprengG, WaffG and BeschussG ) and technical regulations is desirable
  • Experience in the acquisition and management of R&D projects and corresponding scientific project management and Publishing
  • Experience in supervision of young scientists is desirable
  • Very good, precise and appropriate oral and written communication skills in German and English
  • Consultation skills as well as interest in interdisciplinary, scientific work
  • Proven publication activity in the relevant research area
  • Good communication and information skills, goal-oriented and structured way of working, initiative/commitment and ability to make decisions, ability to work in a team and willingness to cooperate, conceptual, strategic and innovative thinking skills
