The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. Your responsibilities include:

  • Coordination of the cooperation with the industrial partner in a ZIM project.
  • Development of laser thermography for in-situ monitoring in additive manufacturing during the L-PBF process
  • Integration of a pyrometer and a camera into the coaxial beam path of the optics of a laser scanner
  • Development of reference test specimens and reference build jobs for the validation of in-situ laser thermography in the L-PBF process
  • Development of an optimized data acquisition software as well as an AI-based data analysis software
  • Collaboration in the construction of a research AM-system for the sensor-assisted L-PBF process

Your qualifications:

  • Completed university studies (diploma/master's degree) with a very good degree in physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physical engineering or comparable.
  • Doctorate is desirable
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the fabrication and evaluation of metallic components using additive manufacturing
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in laser measurement technology and thermography
  • Extensive experience in programming using Matlab, Python, or similar scripting languages
  • Experience with the application of AI methods in data analysis
  • Experimental skills as well as conceptual, strategic and innovative thinking abilities
  • Very good skills of German and English, both written and spoken
  • Strong teamwork skills and willingness to cooperate, good communication and information skills, high ability of initiative/commitment, and ability to make decisions
