The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Our work covers a broad array of topics in the focus areas of energy, infrastructure, environment, materials, and analytical sciences.

Your responsibilities include:

Collaboration in the project "KupferDigital - Ontologieerweiterung normgerechte Werkstoffprüfung, Mechanische Kennwerte" as part of the BMBF initiative Material<em>Digital</em>:

  • Determination of mechanical parameters (by means of hardness testing, tensile, relaxation, LCF tests)
  • Provision of data (measurement data, metadata, data formats) for the project partners
  • Development and provision of process descriptions
  • Supporting the ontology development by contributing domain knowledge in the field of mechanical testing with semantic methods (with special focus on mapping the requirements of the relevant testing standards)
  • Participation in the development of concepts for data transfer
  • Supporting interface development with extended tests
  • Carrying out functional tests for the publication of data as well as for data queries
  • Communication and cooperation with project partners
  • Presentation and publication of results

Your qualifications:

  • a university degree (diploma/ master's) in the field of materials engineering/material science (with programming experience), materials informatics, data science (with a focus on materials engineering) or related fields; doctorate in a relevant field is advantageous
  • In-depth experience in conducting and evaluating mechanical tests (hardness testing, tensile, relaxation, LCF tests)
  • Good knowledge of a programming language (e.g. Python)
  • Knowledge of ontology development methods (Protégé) and/or semantic description languages (OWL, RDF) is advantageous
  • Experience in software development/engineering is advantageous
  • Experience in the use of databases (SQL, NoSQL) is advantagous
  • Knowledge of copper alloys is advantageous
  • Experience with working in interdisciplinary teams
  • Very good knowledge of German and English
  • good communication and Information behaviour, ability to work in a team/willingness to cooperate, willingness to learn, a goal-oriented and structured way of working and initiative/commitment
