Ph.D. Student(m/f/d) in the field of Chemistry or Chemical Engineering

The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Our work covers a broad array of topics in the focus areas of energy, infrastructure, environment, materials, and analytical sciences.

In future BAM will strengthen its research and development activities in the field of stationary hydrogen storage to support the national and European hydrogen strategy.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Development of alternative synthesis procedures like, e.g., solvent-free mechanochemistry as well as other automated continuous production strategies for MOFs
  • Study of the involved mechanisms during the MOF synthesis by in-situ techniques
  • Optimization of such synthesis routes as well as the preparation and packing of materials for the final application
  • Adsorption-desorption experiments of hydrogen and cycling studies to know information about uptakes, kinetics, thermal conductivities and stability to operating conditions

Your qualifications:

  • University degree in chemistry or chemical engineering
  • Experiences in process engineering, nanotechnology or characterization of solid materials
  • Experience related to Metal-Organic Framework (MOF) materials or gas adsorption will be positively valuated
  • T and programming skills (MATLAB, LabView, macro programming, multivariate data analysis, PLC programming, or similar) will be positively valuated
  • Very good English language skills
