The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. Your responsibilities include:

  • Coordination and supervision of the laboratory µ-CT systems of the division 8.5
  • Further development and application of X-ray tomographic methods for the non-destructive characterisation of materials and components
  • Integration (hardware and software) of an in-situ tension-compression-torsion machine into an existing CT system
  • Development of software for the quantitative evaluation of different data sets (algorithms for the detection of volume changes, as well as morphology of particles, cracks, etc.)
  • Proactive participation in the BAM subject areas Material and Analytical Sciences
  • Proactive acquisition and processing of research projects
  • Supervision of master's theses, doctoral students, and technical staff
  • Collaboration with BAM-internal and external research groups and industrial partners
  • Active participation in national and international committees (e.g. standardisation)
  • Detailed scientific documentation of the results through journal articles, presentations at national and international conferences, publications, reports

Your qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree in physics or equivalent
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in computed tomography, imaging and diffraction techniques, proven by publications, scientific documentation and active participation in conferences
  • Solid experience and knowledge in digital image processing and analysis
  • Solid experience in other material characterisation techniques
  • Experience in the conception and realisation of experimental set-ups and instrumentation
  • Experience in non-destructive testing for industrial applications
  • Experience in the management and implementation of research projects
  • Good knowledge of materials science, in particular of materials and processes of additive manufacturing
  • Good command of one or more relevant programming languages (e.g. Python, Matlab, Labview, C++)
  • Good knowledge of English and German (oral and written)
  • Good oral communication (e.g. proven by participation at international conferences) and writing skills (ability to publish scientific articles and reports)
  • Proven soft skills (e.g. strong ability to work in a team, initiative, determination, and resilience in multidisciplinary projects with different Tasks)
