The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. Your responsibilities include:

  • Damage mechanical failure analysis of spent fuel claddings during long-term dry interim storage in the framework of the European Joint Programme on Radioactive Waste Management (EURAD)
  • Finite element analysis of the Ring Compression Test with development and implementation of damage mechanics based material models
  • Evaluation of experimental results from the Ring Compression Test with spent fuel cladding samples


Your qualifications:

  • Scientific degree (Master/Diploma) in the field of Engineering Science, Materials Science or an equivalent discipline
  • Excellent knowledge and experience in continuum mechanics and in use of finite element codes
  • Very good knowledge of (numerical) damage mechanics and / or fracture mechanics
  • Good knowledge and experience in material modelling
  • Extensive knowledge of data analysis
  • Very good written and spoken English
  • Structured and solution-oriented approach, cooperation and team spirit
