The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Your responsibilities include:

  • Early Stage Researcher in Marie Sklodovska Curie Actions (MSCA) Innovative Training Network (ITN) Guided Waves for Structural Health Monitoring (GW4SHM)
  • Development of realistic models of different damage types in fibre reinforced plastics and honey comb structures by means of the general finite element method in combination with the scaled boundary finite element method
  • Providing accurate numerical models to capture the behaviour of real damage
  • Validation of numerical models based on the experimental results
  • The position is intended for writing a Doctoral Thesis
  • Collaboration with other industrial and academic project partners

Your qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics or an equivalent diploma
  • Solid background in numerical methods
  • Good programming skills in MATLAB, Python, Julia or C++ are desirable
  • A strong performance in wave physics and mathematics is essential
  • Advanced English language skills
  • German language skills are an advantage but not required

<strong>Eligibility criteria:</strong>

  • Having not more than 4 years of equivalent research experience, i.e. working as a researcher after obtaining your master's degree
  • Having not been awarded a PhD title
  • Having not resided or carried out main activity in Germany for more than 12 months in the last 3 years
