The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. Your responsibilities include:

The tasks include the processing of the research project ZIKA for the development of non-destructive testing methods for automated internal corrosion detection on radioactive cask containers.

  • The focus is on the investigation and evaluation of the suitability of various NDT methods, as well as hardware and software support for the integration of non-destructive testing methods into a demonstrator.
  • In particular, innovative thermographic methods together with signal and image processing are to be researched.
  • The experimental work is performed exclusively on non-radioactive components and is not subject to the Strahlenschutzverordnung.

Your qualifications:

  • Completed scientific university studies (diploma/master's degree) in the field of physics, mechanical engineering, production engineering, physical engineering or comparable
  • A completed doctorate is an advantage
  • Experience in planning and conducting scientific experiments
  • Practical experience in signal and image processing
  • Good practical programming experience in Python or Matlab
  • Practical work experience in at least one of the mentioned thematic focus areas thermography, non-destructive testing, automation, optics is an advantage
  • Either good German language skills (at least B1) or a high willingness to acquire the German language quickly
  • Good command of written and spoken English
  • Willingness to travel on business
  • Good communication and information skills, goal-oriented and structured way of working, initiative/willingness and ability to take decisions as well as ability to work in a team and willingness to cooperate
