The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Our work covers a broad array of topics in the focus areas of energy, infrastructure, environment, materials, and analytical sciences.

We are looking for talented people to join us.

Your tasks:

The area of responsibility includes research in the field of polymer matrix composites (PMCs). In particular, it is about determining the properties of the fibre-matrix interface of recycled fibre and matrix materials. Central questions are: How does the fibre-matrix coupling change as a result of the recycling process, possibly also as a result of temperature and humidity? The "push-out test" is used as the central experimental method of interface characterization. This method is accompanied by microscopic and spectroscopic methods, as well as nano-indentation and X-ray refraction. The work is carried out in cooperation between BAM and the Leibnitz Institute for Polymer Research in Dresden, especially regarding material selection and numerical modelling of the push-out test.

Your responsibilities include:

  • The development of external cooperations with universities, research institutes and industrial partners
  • Interdisciplinary research in the fields of chemistry, materials science, process technology and analytics
  • The preparation, acquisition and, if necessary, management of third-party funded research projects
  • The recruitment and supervision of young scientists
  • The presentation and publication of the scientific results

Your qualifications:

  • Completed scientific university studies (diploma or master) and a doctorate degree in the field of material science, physics, chemistry, physical engineering or a related subject, rated at least Good
  • Knowledge and experience in the implementation of materials science investigations and the development of measurement technology
  • Knowledge of or interest in recycling processes, especially of plastics and composite materials
  • Good knowledge of materials science in the field of polymers and composite materials with a polymer matrix
  • Good knowledge of spoken and written German and English
  • Peer reviewed publications in international journals in the field of polymer science
  • Good communication and information skills as well as goal-oriented and structured working methods
  • High degree of teamwork and willingness to cooparate, learn and commitment

We offer:

  • Interdisciplinary research at the interface of politics, economics and society
  • Work in national and international networks with universities, research institutes and industrial companies
  • Outstanding facilities and infrastructure
  • Flexible working hours and mobile working
