The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Our work covers a broad array of topics in the focus areas of energy, infrastructure, environment, materials, and analytical sciences.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Support of the department head in scientific, strategic, and administrative content-related work
  • Support the development of cross-disciplinary and cross-departmental strategic research activities, such as data-driven materials science, additive manufacturing, hydrogen degradation, etc.
  • Support in the coordination of new scientific and strategic projects in cooperation with the central institutional research coordination
  • Close cooperation with the communications and marketing to increase the external visibility of the departmental and institutional materials research topics
  • Collaboration with the focus area materials team and/or support of other focus areas relevant to the department
  • Collaboration with research coordinators of other departments
  • Supporting the department head and staff scientists in cross-departmental research activities

Your qualifications:

  • Successfully completed engineering or scientific university degree (preferably in the field of materials science, physics or a comparable field) with a very good doctoral degree
  • Strong track record in scientific publishing and proposal writing
  • Experience in scientific dissemination, communication, and research management
  • Knowledge and experience with third-party funding programs (application, project management)
  • Experience in project implementation and leadership of multidisciplinary research groups
  • Excellent English and German language skills, both written and spoken
  • Very good presentation and publication skills
  • Experience in research transfer is an advantage
  • Good communication and information behaviour, goal-oriented and structured way of working, initiative/commitment, ability to work in a team/willingness to cooperate, conceptual, strategic and innovative thinking skills
