The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Your responsibilities include:

  • Commissioning, calibration and optimization of the computed tomograph procured in the QI-Digital project
  • Computed tomographic measurements and analyses of samples and components produced in the QI-Digital project
  • Quantitative image analysis using conventional software packages as well as self-developed analysis routines
  • Development of software routines for the registration of data sets of different measurement methods in a common coordinate system, e.g. CT, CAD, thermography, optical tomography, micrographs
  • Use of algorithms from the field of artificial intelligence
  • Active participation in the BAM focus area Material
  • Cooperation with internal and external research groups represented in QI Digital as well as with industrial partners
  • Detailed scientific documentation of results through technical papers and presentations at national and international conferences, publications, reports

Your qualifications:

  • Successfully completed scientific university studies in engineering, physics, non-destructive testing or comparable with a doctorate degree
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in computed tomography, imaging and diffraction techniques, demonstrated by publications, scientific documentation and active participation in conferences
  • Experience and knowledge in digital image processing and analysis
  • Extensive experience with non-destructive testing techniques (esp. thermography)
  • Solid experience in other material characterization techniques
  • Experience in design and implementation of experimental setup and instrumentation
  • Experience in non-destructive testing for industrial applications
  • Experience in the management and implementation of research projects
  • Good knowledge of materials science
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages relevant to the task (e.g. Python, Matlab, Labview, C++)
  • Good knowledge of English and German (oral and written)
  • Communication skills in spoken (e.g. proven by appearance at international conferences) and written (ability to publish scientific articles and reports)
  • Strong teamwork skills, initiative, determination and ability to work under pressure in multidisciplinary projects with different tasks
