Fire and explosion protection in complex industrial facilities, during the transport of dangerous goods or in structures, but also the flame protection of new materials and the fire resistance of components and structures are essential for the infrastructure safety and competitiveness of Germany as a technology location.

In the area of fire science, we research and evaluate the scientific-technical correlations of fires and explosions and their course. In addition, we investigate the pyrolysis of materials, their fire behaviour, flame protection and smoke development, the fire protection of building components, dangerous materials/goods containment and industrial facilities, fire detection, fire fighting and evacuation.
