On 23rd and 24th October 2017, a BAM delegation visited the Institut National de I'Environnement Industriel et des Risques (INERIS) in France. BAM and INERIS have been working together successfully for many years.
What the Olympics is for athletes, so is the World Tribology Congress for experts concerned with the effects of friction, wear and lubrication, i.e. tribology. This congress, like the Olympics, takes place only once every four years.
In cooperation with the German Accreditation Body DAkkS, BAM has carried out a comparative study on the work of European accreditation bodies. The aim of the comparison was to identify and encourage "best practice" and improve the dialogue between the participating accreditation bodies.

How can diseases in human blood be recognised as early as possible? Christian Heck, Ph.D. student at the School of Analytical Sciences Adlershof (SALSA), is working on a solution to this problem.
At its annual Ph.D. Day on 21st September 2017 BAM announced the alumni network Alumni@BAM for former staff who completed their Ph.D., researched or worked at BAM.
Disaster protection also includes technical disasters triggered by fires or explosions. BAM investigates such potential damage scenarios in experimental large-scale tests on its Test Site Technical Safety (TTS).
The focus area Energy successfully launched a new series of events with a lecture from Prof. Anders Levermann on "Climate Change: Predictions, Projections and Risks" on 12th September. Further lectures are being planned for the coming months.
"Open-minded. Open for change." was the title of this year's General Assembly of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). As part of the programme an international delegation from this General Assembly took the opportunity to visit BAM.
Ms Mukta Dutta Tomar, who was appointed ambassador of the Republic of India in April, paid her first visit to BAM in September together with her science attaché Mr Madhan.
