BAM as Network Partner in the Field of Metrology
BAM assumes duties as a national institute for metrology in the field of chemical handling in coordination with the National Metrology Institute of Germany. These duties include in particular the development and provision of reference methods and reference materials. BAM remains an active participant in the ongoing development of the German system for the traceability of chemical analyses.
BAM has demonstrated its expertise as a national institute for metrology in chemical handling and the reliability of its results in numerous international round robin tests. The corresponding confirmations of its expertise can be viewed on the document server.
A reference material (RM) is a material or substance of sufficient homogeneity, in which one or several properties have been determined so accurately that they can be used to calibrate measurement devices, assess measurement techniques or assign substance property values. Reference materials are essential for guaranteeing the correctness and reliability of measurements.
We develop and certify reference materials to guarantee correct and reliable measurements. The BAM webshop offers our business, government and research clients access to over 400 materials from a variety of fields, including iron & steel, environment, foodstuffs, polymers and many more.
Our collection of reference organisms encompasses microorganisms and insects used in tests for standards compliance of industrial products, or in tests that we can be appointed to perform. These reference organisms are available in the BAM webshop.
Round Robin Tests
Round robin tests are an effective tool in ensuring the comparability of measurements and test results from different laboratories. They serve to validate testing methods, identify the characteristics of reference materials, and prove suitability for measurement purposes, for example in audits. In selected fields of expertise, BAM offers round robin tests, some of which are performed at regular intervals (for example for contaminated sites).
You can find the latest notifications of BAM round robin tests, in which laboratories throughout Germany and also throughout the world can participate, in the BAM webshop.
