Sensors, Measurement and Testing Methods
The Sensors, Measurement and Testing Methods division deals with tasks related to non-destructive testing, in order to ensure that materials, products, machinery and systems are safe and fit for purpose. Specifically, sensors and measurement methods are applied to practical applications, new methods and technologies are developed and validated, existing methods and technologies are improved, and the development of standards and technical guidelines is supported to this end.
Sensor and measurement technology-based methods are preferentially used for tasks in relation to condition monitoring (monitoring, structural health monitoring: SHM), early damage detection, experimental stress analysis, material characterisation and also gas and humidity measurement as well as environmental and emissions monitoring. The application-oriented development and validation of multi-sensor systems and self-monitoring components and structures using material-integrated sensor technology are also part of the division's activities.
For large-scale condition recording and monitoring, for instance for process and geotechnical machinery and constructions, modular sensor platforms are developed and deployed based on mobile robotics.
