Corrosion and Corrosion Protection
The safety and durability of buildings, technical equipment and apparatus require components and structural elements to be protected from corrosion in a way that is adequate to the stresses they are exposed to. This is the only way that their function and safety can be maintained throughout their entire lifetime. The Corrosion and Corrosion Protection division investigates the corrosion of metallic materials under practical conditions, identifies the causes of corrosion damage, and tests the effectiveness and suitability of anti-corrosion measures.
Research & development efforts aim to enhance knowledge of corrosive reactions in metals, to evaluate novel anti-corrosion methods or systems, to adapt and enhance suitable testing and investigative methods, and to solve standards-related problems.
