The Thermochemical Residues Treatment and Resource Recovery division develops and investigates thermographic methods for the processing of waste and residues. Methods are often developed in close cooperation with industrial partners. For this purpose, different thermal units ranging from laboratory to small bench scale are used.

Conserving resources by recovering critical raw materials, encouraging a sustainable closed-loop resource economy and supporting the environmental compatibility of processes and products are at the focus of the research efforts. For mass residues from construction or industrial production, potential for recycling is investigated and its environmental compatibility evaluated. Authorities, government and industry are advised to ensure that knowledge is conveyed in the interest of practical benefit and that the results are applied.
