One of the focus activities of the Organic Trace Analysis division is the development and validation of practical and standardisable analytical methods and the development and certification of reference materials for the trace analysis of organic analytes and the performance of proficiency tests. The reference materials concern organic contaminants in soil, wood, waste and sewage.
Another research topic focuses on the reliable analytical detection of biomarkers in forensics (e.g. detection of the alcohol consumption marker ethyl glucuronide in hair) and medicine (breath gas analysis). Our activities in the field of method development and validation, certification of reference materials and the performance of interlaboratory comparisons are integrated into national, European and international networks.
