BAM's research on nanomaterials is particularly concerned with safety. We investigate how nanomaterials can be designed and used to produce materials with improved or new properties and to increase the safety of products.
The development of nanomaterials for use in more complex systems in nanotechnology and as "advanced materials" is as much a part of nanoMaterial's field of activity as nano reference materials.
Nano reference materials represent a challenge. A certified reference material can only be certified after a long-term stability study. However, nanomaterials are often not stable in the long term. Nano test materials offer a solution for this problem. These are characterized and provided with regard to certain properties, but certification is only granted in the course of the materials' lifetime.
Nano test materials/reference materials are requested from different areas of research, regulation and industry. The requirements vary greatly, so that very different nanomaterials have to be made available.
A test platform is to be established at BAM for the fastest possible certification / market introduction of nano test materials and nano reference materials.
