„Knowledge builds trust“

The new BAM Report, the annual publication of the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM), has been released. Entitled “Knowledge builds trust”, the report presents selected projects from BAM’s five focus areas: Energy, Infrastructure, Environment, Materials, and Chemistry and Process Engineering.
The focus is on safety-related issues arising from political disruption, technological transformation, and changing geopolitical conditions. At the same time, the report demonstrates how scientifically sound knowledge provides guidance in addressing concrete technical challenges.
“More than others, such times make clear the significance of knowledge: It is the foundation for progress and innovation, it creates new economic opportunities – and bolsters our trust,” says BAM President Prof. Dr. Ulrich Panne in the editorial.
Among other topics, the report shows how green hydrogen can be produced more cost-effectively, how wind energy plants can be built in a more resource-efficient way and used for longer periods, and how old prestressed concrete bridges can be assessed more realistically. Further contributions address the automated development of high-performance materials, the reuse of old concrete components, and more practical safety regulations for the transport of dangerous goods.
The new BAM Report is published digitally as an interactive e‑magazine and as an accessible PDF, available in German and English.
