Ten colleagues from the MERCOSUR countries Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile visited BAM on 24th October. MERCOSUR stands for "Mercado Común del Sur", the common market of South America. The guests participated in a PTB Braunschweig project that deals with the introduction of energy labelling in Latin American countries. BAM has specific expertise in energy labelling and eco-design because BAM accommodates Germany’s statutory "delegated body".
The exchange between the experts from South American standardisation institutes and Dr. Floris Akkerman, Head of Section Ecodesign and Energy Labelling was very stimulating. Subsequently, the delegation visited the BAM’s Berlin-Adlershof site. Dr. Matthias Koch from the Food Analysis Division gave an introduction into the topic of the production of reference materials for food tests. Dr. Jérémy Bell from the Chemical and Optical Sensing Division presented sensor technologies that can be used in developing and emerging countries to detect environmental hazards at an early stage. Finally, a tour through BAM’s pilot plant and laboratory building and visits to clean rooms was the programme’s highlight.
