To strengthen our team in the department “Quality Infrastructure” in Berlin Steglitz-Zehlendorf,
starting as soon as possible, we are looking for a

Head of the Section “eScience” (f/m/d)

Your responsibilities include:

- Installation and strategic, personnel and professional lead of the newly established section
- Establishment, leadership and motivation of a qualified team of employees
- Organization and conceptual design of an internal research data management system for all departments of BAM; Organization and conceptual design of infrastructures for reference data in the framework of cooperation with external partners according to BAM’s decree
- Establishment of interdepartmental services and standards for high-quality and sustainable scientific software development and scientific software architecture
- Agile software development of exemplary prototypes in the field of data science and statistics for the implementation of scientific questions
- Development of recommendations for the corporate management in close cooperation with the section "Information Technology / CIO" of BAM
- Stimulating support of internal and third-party funded research projects with a focus on data science
- Active design of change processes and contribution to the further development of the focus areas of BAM as a manager, especially in the field of digital transformation
- Positioning BAM as a federal research institution through participation in national and international networks

Your qualifications:

- Higher than average scientific university degree in engineering, natural sciences, informatics or computational science, a PhD degree with excellent results and scientific achievements far
exceeding a PhD

- In-depth knowledge and many years of experience in a data-driven discipline, e.g. Cheminformatics, Bioinformatics, Material Informatics, related to methods of artificial intelligence, machine learning or advanced statistical methods
- Excellent knowledge in the field of data science with tools of machine learning, optimization and data mining methods (e.g. Phython, TensorfLow, R)
- Knowledge in big data analytics is desirable (e.g. SQL, Hadoop, Spark) as well as experiences with meta data in the field of research data management (e.g. XML, RDF, OWL)
- Leadership experience with successful personnel and professional leadership in scientific and technical work areas
- Experience in communication and coordination in interdisciplinary projects with a digital focus
- Experience in the independent handling of scientific questions, own successful acquisition of third-party funds, publication and presentation of scientific results as well as supervision of young academics is desirable
- Professional proficiency in English and German
- Team-oriented working style with very good communication skills, a high degree of reflection and a willingness to act in a service-oriented manner
- Strong conceptual, strategic and innovative thinking skills, assertiveness and a high degree of decision-making ability
