Topic
Hiding in the bulk: the local structure origin of materials properties
Presenter:
Dr Giuditta Perversi, Maastricht University, NL
Summary
Several interesting materials with high technological applicability are associated with phase transitions, in a remarkable example of structure-to-property relationship. The resulting behaviours are often regarded and applied as a bulk property of the material, but a more thorough crystallographic investigation with X-rays and Neutron diffraction often give insights of more complex structural interactions concealed under the average signal. This concept will be explored in some transition metal oxides presenting metal-to-insulator transitions or the onset of oxygen conductivity, with all the many challenges associated with it.
Registration fee
These lectures are free and can be attended via Zoom by to up to 100 attendees.
The lectures will be recorded as well, and (with permission of the presenter) will be made available online afterwards for a broader educational reach.
