Nanoscale magnetization distribution in nanoparticles

Dr Sabrina Disch, University of Cologne, DE

Magnetic nanoparticles reveal unique magnetic properties which make them relevant for biomedical applications such as magnetic hyperthermia. Being intrinsic to nanomaterials, disorder effects crucially determine the magnetization properties and can thus also affect the heating performance of magnetic nanoparticles. In view of the technological relevance, it is therefore important to understand the nanoscale distribution of order and disorder within nanoparticles.

We use magnetic SANS to investigate the magnetization distribution and spin disorder within magnetic nanoparticles. In this talk I will give an introduction to the technique and present our most recent work on ferrite nanoparticles.
