Topic

Nanodiffraction at ID11: the case of asbestos fibres

Presenter:

Dr Carlotta Giacobbe from ESRF, France

Summary

The advent of high-brightness synchrotron sources and improvements in X-ray focusing optics has enabled new techniques for mineralogical investigations with nanometre spatial resolution.

At ID11, the Materials Science beamline at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF), a new end station, the “nanoscope”, has recently been built to provide real-space maps of the local lattice structure, crystal orientation and grain morphology, together with a classical diffraction and fluorescence approach. The study of asbestos fibers is a scientific case than can benefit of this unique setup.

Registration fee

These lectures are free and can be attended via Zoom by to up to 100 attendees.

The lectures will be recorded as well, and (with permission of the presenter) will be made available online afterwards for a broader educational reach.
