Innovative laser welding for wind turbines
A young spin-off of our Wind@BAM competence centre will be presenting a new laser welding technology for wind turbines at Hannover Messe 2024. Their innovation can increase production speed by a factor of eight.
Find out how a smart electromagnet system enables laser hybrid welding of thick steel sheets. By attaching the magnets directly to the welding zone, droplet formation on the weld seam is prevented. As a result, the welding time of a 120-meter wind tower can be reduced from 96 to just 12 hours, resulting in potential cost savings of up to 90 percent.
This pioneering technology not only has the potential to revolutionize the wind energy industry, but could also find applications in other sectors such as hydrogen pipelines, liquid gas tanks and heavy industry.
