The Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing is a Notified Body (registration No. 0589) in accordance with the EC Directives 93/15/EWG able to provide EC type certificates (CE-marking) for explosives (blasting explosives, propellants and pyrotechic compositions), as well as to perform conformity assessment procedures for pyrotechnic articles according to 2007/23/EC. BAM also has the authority to issue regulations of use and identification numbers for explosives under the Explosives Act.

BAM Test Site Technical Safety (BAM TTS)

BAM has the authority to issue approvals for explosive accessories and explosion-prone substances in the chemical industry (explosives beyond the scope of EC Directive 93/15/EWG) in accordance with the Explosives Act.

BAM is also the competent authority for the assignment of explosive substances to storage groups and compatibility groups according to the Explosives Act (explosives, pyrotechnic compositions and articles and explosion-prone substances in the chemical industry).

BAM's obligation to publish notification of certificates granted under § 13 of the First Ordinance to the Explosives Act (1. SprengV) is fulfilled by the provision of data in the form of lists. The lists are divided into substance-related groups under the following three entries.
