Symbols of companies for repair of IBCs

BAM specifies a symbol in co-ordination with companies for repair of IBCs (metal IBCs, rigid plastics IBCs and composite IBCs) which has to be included in the mandatory additional marking.

Repair of IBC covers the following activities:

a) Restore of IBC with evidence of reduced strength so as to confirm to the design type and to be able to withstand the design type tests.

b) Replacement of the rigid inner receptacle of a composite IBC with a receptacle conforming to the original manufacturer's specification

Notes:

• Each IBC shall be subjected to inspection whenever it is repaired
• Each IBC used for liquids shall pass a suitable leakproofness test after repair
• The maximum allowable period of use has to be taken into consideration particularly for plastics IBCs und composite IBCs with plastics inner receptacles
• The body of a rigid plastics IBC and the inner receptacle of a composite IBC is not repairable
• Flexible IBCs are not repairable unless approved for repair by the competent authority
• Repaired IBCs must be free from defects, which affect the succesfull passing of the design type test
• Manufacturers are authorized to repair IBCs manufactured by themselves, to carry out all inspections and to affix the corresponding marking

Companies, who have a BAM recognized quality assurance programme (QAP) for the repair of IBCs for the transport of dangerous goods according to BAM-GGR 001, are authorized to carry out all tests and inspections mentioned in 6.5.4.4 and to use the "manufacturers symbol" issued with the recognition of the quality assurance programme for the corresponding marking

In the following table those companys are listet, whose symbols are approved by BAM for the repair of IBCs according to the given IBC design types. Furthermore this table contains information about the quality assurance programme (QAP) of those companies who have in addition a BAM recognized QAP for the repair of IBC for the transport of dangerous goods according to BAM-GGR 001 and whose activities are therefore monitored in accordance with BAM-GGR 001.

This table is updated quarterly.
