Pendulum impact tester
In addition to their ability to safely contain dangerous goods by sufficient resistance to operational loads (in particular internal pressure), tank walls must also be able to provide a level of protection against external mechanical impacts (penetration).
Investigations into the quasi-static penetration behaviour are performed on simple wall superstructures which enable identification of material-specific minimum wall thicknesses.
For the investigation of resilience at higher speeds, BAM operates a pendulum impact tester. The measurements, in combination with numerical methods, provide a basis for analysis and help to further develop dangerous goods regulations and their accompanying standards.
