Mutual Recognition Arrangement of the International Committee of Weights and Measures

(Comité International des Poids et Mesures CIPM MRA)

The signatories to the Mutual Recognition Arrangement of the Comité International des Poids et Mesures (CIPM MRA) for the recognition of national standards, calibration and measurement certificates of national motrology institutes can be found in a database of the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures database (BIPM) (BIPM, Appendix A). The agreement is founded on three pillars:

• International intercomparisons among the national metrology institutes, whose results are published in the Internet (BIPM, Appendix B),
• Data on the calibration and measurement capabilities of metrology institutes, which are peer-reviewed by international teams of experts prior to publication (BIPM, Appendix C),
• Recognition of the institutes' quality management systems according to ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO Guide 34 (if applicable) by the respective regional organisation of metrology institutes, in BAM's case by EURAMET.

The BIPM database contains 543 entries on BAM's calibration and measurement capabilities (status: 1 January 2011).
