BAM Certification Body (BZS)

What does certification mean?

Certification is the formal attestation by a neutral independent third party that products, processes, systems or persons meet defined requirements.

Certification at BAM

BAM certifies products and associated quality systems and carries out inspections in the framework of required monitoring activities. The tests forming the basis for certification are performed in BAM or, in exceptional cases, by external accredited and monitored external testing laboratories. The tests results are assessed by BAM and form the basis for certification.

BAM certifies products predominantly in the framework of EC Directives and national legal regulations. Certification is carried out in the form of design-type tests (module B) generally in connection with monitoring of the manufacturers’ quality systems (module D).

Additionally BAM is also involved in certification in the voluntary area within BAM’s specific fields of competence where no legal regulations for products have been established yet.

Based on the safety level as well as on the product requirements the BAM Certification Body applies various certification systems relating to the extent of product testing and monitoring activities. This also offers the opportunity for a customer to mark his product(s) with an approved certification sign and/or to use this sign in advertisement and information material.

The specific certification programmes, which relate to a number of different products, are explained to the customer prior to contracting.

Normative bases of certification

BAM and notably the BAM Certification Body act as neutral independent third party on the basis of the standards DIN EN 45011 for product certification and DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 for testing. Certification as well as inspection activities and monitoring of manufacturers’ quality systems are carried out according to standard DIN EN ISO/IEC 17020 and 17021.

The statement of impartiality (PDF, 2.3 MB, only in German) which is discussed and confirmed by the Advisory Board of the BZS annually, forms an integral part of the Quality policy (PDF). Appeals and complaints as well as liability procedures are regulated (PDF) in the same way.

Accreditation

Formerly, BZS has been granted accreditation by the German accreditation bodies ZLS (Central Body of the German Federal States for Safety) and DGA (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Akkreditierung mbH) (proceeding no. DGA-ZE-3998.00).The procedure has been overtaken by DAkkS (Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle GmbH) in 2010 (proceeding no. D-ZE-11075-21-00).
