Quality Infrastructure:
Network in a globalized society

“Quality infrastructure” serves to maintain and improve our quality of life and promotes the international movement of goods. As a centre of competence for conformity assessment, accreditation and quality in testing, we support and promote national and international quality infrastructure. Characteristics are specified within the quality infrastructure for technical compatibility, safety, consumer protection and health and the environment.

Testing, certification, conformity assessment, accreditation and market surveillance improve the quality of products and services, while duplication of tests will be avoided through mutual recognition of certificates.

Our mission

• Coordination of German contributions to international organisations
• Participation in standardising and legislative activities
• Advice of the economy and policy makers
• International technology transfer

In addition we compile studies and develop concepts for the advancement of quality infrastructure

Our fields of activity

• Participation in national and international harmonization and development of accreditation, certification and testing methodologies: EA, ILAC, IAF, EUROLAB, EUROLAB-Deutschland
• Participation in the standardization activities NQSZ, CEN/CLC/TC1, ISO / CASCO
• Co-ordination tasks within the German accreditation system:
  • DAR (German Accreditation Council)
  • Office of the Accreditation Advisory Board
• International technology transfer ICATT 
• Maintenance of the accredited bodies database in Germany
• Maintenance and hosting of the international database for proficiency testing schemes EPTIS 
• Provision of information on national technical rules to improve the free movement of goods within the EU:
  Product Contact Point in accordance with EU regulation
• Administration of BAM Certification Body BZS 
• Support and control of BAM’s Quality Management System
