Workink group

Combination and Automation of Non-destructive Testing of Buildings

In this working group NDT-methods like ultrasonic, radar, impact-echo and eddy current developed in other working groups are combined to get the maximum information about geometry, internal structure and construction of investigated concrete members. The imaging of the results helps to compare with the as-built plan or can help to create them if not existing. Therefore a tight measuring grid of 2 to 5 cm to collect data is necessary. The working group develops automated data collection systems – on-site scanners – to ensure a precise and economic data collection. These scanners can be used to investigate horizontal or vertical areas as well as overhead.

At present a robust and easy to handle on-site scanner is being developed in the research project OSSCAR (On-Site SCAnneR). For further information please see: www.vdivde-it.de/innonet.

Furthermore the validation of testing tasks ist part of the work to furnish the proof for a costumer that his demands can be fullfilled. For the validation of the testing methods for different testing problems BAM has constructed a special test specimen called the large concrete specimen.
