Building Materials

Test of the compression strength on high performance concrete

Test of the compression strength on high performance concrete

Our main competence encompasses the evaluation of material properties and further development of durable and safe building materials. A central topic is research on damage mechanisms. Thus, the related main issues are material characterization, material behaviour under different loads and protection from damage. With regard to existing constructions all aspects of condition evaluation and damage diagnosis are within our scope.

We apply our experience to supporting new developments and solving problems. Commissions come from the construction industry and administrative bodies. Funding for our research projects is raised from national and international organisations. These projects are mainly performed in partnership with construction industry. Beyond that we have close cooperation with many universities and other research institutes. Additional tasks originate in our extensive participation in international and national regulation bodies.

Our main focus is a wide range of mineral building materials, with emphasis on cementitious materials. Additionally we deal with specific constructions employing bituminous and polymer binders, and with special effects of different additions (admixtures, polymers, nano-particles and fibers).

Our main research areas

Our areas of expertise as well as our unique testing facilities in our laboratories give a good background for dealing with questions concerning the evaluation of performance and durability.
