The serviceability of structures, technical plants and equipment requires that materials are sufficiently resistant to corrosion in order to exclude failure during their planned design life span.

The divison carries out investigations on metallic materials under practical conditions and analyses corrosion failures, especially regarding to the rehabilitation of structures, technical plants and equipment.

Research and development projects aim at increasing the knowledge on the corrosion behaviour of materials, on protective measures and the optimisation of test methods.

• Investigation of corrosion parameters of materials for storing and transport of ecologically harmful and inflammable materials

• Laboratory investigations of corrosion performance of new materials and protective systems

Corrosion behaviour of high-alloyed steels

• Identification of areas of application
• Evaluation of corrosion performance
• Investigation of damage cases

Corrosion in reinforced concrete

• Monitoring and evaluation of reinforced concrete structures with respect to corrosion and corrosion damage
• Analysis of damage cases in building structures caused by corrosion of the reinforcement in reinforced concrete
• Development, evaluation and testing of sensor systems for corrosion monitoring.
