Functional Ceramics and Multilayer Technology

Many innovative products in telecommunication, automotive, biotechnology, sensor technology and safety engineering are based on multilayered electroceramics.

The experience of our working group covers material development, ceramic processing, process control methods and measurements of material properties. We offers excellent possibilities to improve reliability of components and production processes and we develop new applications for ceramic multilayers.

Equipment and competence

Test equipment for raw materials, green bodies and components

• Process control methods:
  particle characterisation, dilatometry, in-line measurement of tape thickness, strength of ceramic green tapes
• Microstructure and surface characterisation:
  ultrasonic scanning microscopy, interference microscopy, laser scanning microscopy
• Electric und dielectric properties:
  permittivity, dielectric loss, dielectric strength

Ceramic processing

• Powder processing:
  breaker, ball mills, attritors, spray dryer
• Shaping processes:
  tape casting machines, uniaxial and isostatic presses
• Multilayer technology:
  punching tools, „hot-knife“, screen printer, uniaxial and isostatic laminator
• Thermal processes:
• debindering muffels, HT-furnaces, quartz glass furnaces, sintering press

• Special glasses and composites for Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramics (LTCC)
