Experimental setup for high speed loading
Safety relevant processes such as crashes of automobiles or aeroplanes, detonations of tanks or pipes often cause a high speed loading of material. The induced high strain rates of the material are also characteristic for impacts and high speed forming processes.
For simulation and safety assessment of such processes knowledge of material behaviour is important.
Experimental investigations of predominantly metallic materials
High speed tensile test of a steel specimen at 1000 °C and 10m/s (video, mpg, 430 kB)
Our objective is the identification of material behaviour under high speed loading:
Strain field of a notched specimen
Temperature field of a notched specimen
The results of the high speed tests are the basis of the identification and calibration models of material and damage behaviour.
