Division 4.3
The division performs research and development, testing, certification and consulting in the following areas:
Thermal waste treatment: the arc furnace in operation
Our main activities are focused on the reduction of pollutants in soil and groundwater, on processes for remediation and on the conversion and re-utilisation of contaminated material. Assessment and appraisal is carried out in the following areas:
Research on the above subjects helps to support the preparation and evaluation of technical standards and legislative statutory regulations.
EU research projects
Photovoltaic waste materials are processed in the "RESOLVED" EU project using wet mechanical technology and valuable material components are recovered (see also www.resolved.bam.de).
In the "RECARC" project the utilization of residues from high-grade steel production by arc furnace technology is investigated. See www.recarc.bam.de www.recarc.bam.de for further information.
The division has participated with other European partners in the "PEREBAR, Long term performance of permeable reactive barriers used for the remediation of contaminated groundwater" EU project. See www.perebar.bam.de for more information.
In the EU Life Environment Demonstration Project "RECDEMO: Complete utilization of the sand fraction from demolition waste recycling" the processing and the recycling of processed concrete crushed sand has been investigated as concrete aggregate. See www.recdemo.bam.de for further information.
German Award on Materials Efficiency
The Division has been organizing the German Award on Materials Efficiency
since 2004 on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economics and
Technology.
See www.materialeffizienz.de for further
information on this activity (German only).
Presentations and publications can be found in the "PUBLICA" database.
